About This Quote
The quote is attributed to Edward Rutherfurd. Rutherfurd was born in New York City in 1937. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and then attended college at Columbia University where he received his undergraduate degree in English literature.
While attending Columbia, Rutherfurd founded the school's literary magazine, The Columbia Review, with several of his classmates. He wrote his first novel, The Great Stony Fields (1984), while attending college and graduated in 1979 after which he continued his education at Oxford University. He returned to Columbia twice to teach writing seminars and later published many books of fiction and non-fiction dealing with history, art, architecture, travel, and local history.
His novel A History of the World in Seven Glasses (2000) has been translated into over twenty languages including Braille for the blind.
